College-readiness writing support (e.g., personal statements, application responses)
For high school, support begins with a simple, student-centered intake process designed to identify strengths, challenges, and academic goals. At this stage, the student takes the lead, with the option for parent involvement as needed.
The tutor will meet with the student (and parent/guardian, if desired) to discuss current academic experiences, areas of concern, and goals for support. This conversation helps build a plan that fits your child's learning style and needs.
The student will complete a brief academic and personal reflection survey. This helps identify how the student feels about school, where they feel confident, and where they might need additional guidance.
Based on the student’s input and academic needs, the tutor will create a personalized support plan. This plan may include skill-building in reading or writing, study strategies, or organizational tools to support success across subjects.
The tutor may ask for a recent writing sample, assignment, or reading task to review to identify skill gaps and strengths. This is not a formal assessment, but a practical tool to help guide instruction and ensure the support is relevant.
Once the plan is reviewed and approved, tutoring sessions will begin. Sessions are 45–60 minutes in length and typically include:
Skill and strategy review tailored to the child’s needs
Guided practice with support and modeling
Independent practice with immediate feedback
Homework or schoolwork support (20 minutes of each session)
To support classroom alignment, parents are encouraged to check in periodically with their child’s teacher(s). This helps ensure that what’s happening in tutoring is translating to success at school. The tutor will adjust session plans based on teacher feedback and observed student progress.
